Benefits to employers:
- It
makes good business sense to participate. Participation will
enhance your ability to fill job openings and create a diverse
workforce. A diverse workforce gives companies a competitive advantage
by enabling them to better meet the needs of their customers,
successfully compete in the global marketplace and hire from an
expanded labor pool.
- Opportunities
for positive Public Relations. Participation will provide you with
opportunities to spotlight your company’s successes in hiring
persons with a disability and sponsor well advertised activities and
brochures.
- The
BLN is an organized source for information. Pennsylvania’s BLN
will work in conjunction with Chambers of Commerce, business
associations, Team PA CareerLinks (one stop employment centers), and
the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to provide employers with easy
access to information regarding the recruitment and training of
individuals with a disability. The BLN should make it simple for
employers to find answers to their questions about accommodations,
ADA, community resources, tax credits, specific disabilities, etc.
Where to find employees:
In addition to the employment
agencies located across Pennsylvania that assist persons with a
disability, there are several Web
sites that can provide employers with information for finding job
seekers with a disability.
How can employers
participate in the BLN?
The role of the business community members will vary based on their
employment needs and what they feel is feasible and beneficial to their
company. Below is a list of some ways businesses can be involved with the
Business Leadership Network.
- Receive
access to pertinent disability hiring practices, educational and
training information and promote this information within your human
resources organization.
- Participate
in local and state BLN meetings. Share success stories and hiring
strategies with other members.
- Participate
by including individuals with disabilities in your internship,
mentoring and interviewing programs.
Other BLN Web sites:
Approximately 19 other states have started Business Leadership Networks.
